My parents moved to Canada a few years prior to my birth from Belgrade, Serbia, where our extended family chose to remain. While feeling a sense of comfort in Belgrade, I have also felt a stranger not only in the city but within my family’s homes. Having always shared a close kinship with my great-grandmother, I turned to her absence to feel less like an outsider in spaces which were once hers prior to my birth and her death. She was once there, but never physically in this city and our familial spaces with me, not during my lifetime. In making this series, our two paths co-existed briefly.
